Cable properties

PROCAB uses custom logos to symbolize, industry standard features that its cables and accessories possess.
Here you can find a detailed explanation behind the most common cable properties. So, that you can find the right cable for the job.

Connectors

HDMI

HDMI

HDMI stands for high-definition multimedia interface and is the most common standard for transferring high quality uncompressed digital video and data. Most modern video projectors, computers and monitors are compatible with this transfer type. An HDMI cables can differ in speed what makes them to achieve higher resolutions.

DVI

DVI

Digital Visual Interface is a very versatile interface that can be used for analog as well as digital video transfer. Compatible connectors can be found on computers, DVD players and television sets. The DVI monitor cable specification is also compatible with the VGA interface which stands for Video Graphics Array.

SDI

SDI

Serial Digital Interface (SDI) is a digital video interface that is used for the transmission of uncompressed, unencrypted digital video signals for professional video equipment. Standard SDI cables are terminated with BNC connectors and have a nominal impedance of 75 Ohms. The same cables can also be used for analog SD video distribution.

USB

USB

The universal serial bus protocol is used for the connection between a computer and its peripherals such as portable media players, network adapters and digital cameras. Apart from data transmission a USB cable is also able to supply power. It is thanks to this combination that the USB cable has become a standard for other devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Ethernet

Ethernet

Ethernet cables are commonly equipped with and RJ45 connector and are used to create a local area network between computers or between other professional devices. The cables are divided in different groups based on their maximum transfer speeds.

A solid core network cable like the ones in the contractor series is intended for permanently installed runs. It is less flexible than stranded cable and is more prone to failure if repeatedly flexed. Stranded cable is used for fly leads at patch panel and for connections from wall-ports to end devices, as it resists cracking of the conductors.

Keystone

Keystone

Created for AV installers and integrators who need to make tidy rack connectors or wall outlets. These plates are especially designed for quick installation and to provide a neat and tidy look.

Cable specifications

Inner conductor

Inner conductor

The inner conductor is the heart of the cable and defines the flexibility and conductivity of a cable.  Several different materials and alloys are used to create these conductors, each with their specific applications and advantages. Below you find a list of different cable conductors and their advantages.

Shielding

Shielding

Except the outer jacket that protects against physical damage a cable also has a shielding for protection against external signal interferences. These interferences may corrupt data transfer or create unwanted noise in an audio signal. Different types of shielding are used, as they differ in their specific advantage in protecting signal frequencies.

Cable separator

Cable separator

A cable separator is manly used to create less friction between the separately isolated conductors in a cable.

Outer jacket

Outer jacket

Apart from being the main physical protection for the cable, the outer Jacket also provides a smooth and safe touch for its users. To bring the best user experience and satisfaction, some outer jackets are designed to excel in a specific function. It is because of this reason that PROCAB, developed cables that can aid in the instalment or that have better winding and unwinding properties. For safety regulations the outer jacket can also consist of materials that emit very low levels of smoke or will self-extinguish when exposed to flames.

EN50575 CPR Euroclass

EN50575 CPR Euroclass

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) is an EU regulation for installation cables, classifying cables based on their fire performance. It is aimed to improve the fire safety in buildings. As a manufacturer of professional cabling we feel responsible to provide cabling you can rely on every day. That’s why we chose to offer CPR certified cabling with maximum fire safety. In case of a fire, most casualties are a result of the toxic smokes.

Impedance

Impedance

A data transfer cable comes with a difference in resistance, expressed in the impedance of the cable, making some cables a better fit for a specific application. Ranging from cables that are ideal for only transmitting signals (one way) and other cables that are the best pick for the transmission of digital signals.

Connector type and finish

Connector type and finish

A reliable audio cable is by definition equipped with high quality connectors. This range of trustworthy connectors has a proven record of withstanding the harshest use that any rental or road application can throw at them.
